Digitally Engineering A Design Solution In Indonesia

Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia recently upgraded their facility in Medan, North Sumatra with the installation of a new high-speed PET production line to deliver more product faster, to their growing customer base in the region.

In partnership with Amatil Indonesia and the installation contractor, our high-performance Indonesia team utilised cutting edge digital engineering and design expertise to deliver a solution that boosted production output by more than 68 per cent.

By applying a staged approach and bringing the latest in Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology to the project, we ensured a high quality and comprehensive solution to best meet Amatil Indonesia’s needs and priorities.

Our initial assessment and feasibility study involved a complete laser scan and 360-degree image capture of the site creating multiple ‘point clouds’. This data was then used to create a 3D representation, or ‘As-built' design of the existing facility, allowing us to add and manipulate design elements with millimetre precision. This enabled the contractor to install quickly and efficiently, keeping any re-work to an absolute minimum.  

Our design team was able to utilize cutting edge Virtual Reality (VR) technology throughout the design process to co-ordinate multiple design disciplines, conduct pre-build visualizations and constructability assessments within the complex brownfield environment.

The benefit of a BIM approach means that Amatil Indonesia now has a digital model of their new line upgrade that serves as a digital foundation to provide value throughout the BIM lifecycle with benefits realised through operations, maintenance and training.
