Beca was honoured to be recognised with multiple awards at the 2020 Association of Consulting Engineers (ACE) New Zealand Awards gala on Wednesday 25 November.
Held at the Auckland Town Hall, the ACE Awards gala saw Beca recognised with the following awards:
- Silver Award for the Bunnythorpe to Haywards Transmission Line Reconductoring project. The project saw the Beca team working in partnership with client Transpower to complete two 120km-long, 220kV transmission lines from concept study, conductor selection and detailed design through to construction support and close-out.
- Silver Award for the Dudley Creek Flood Remediation project (in partnership with WSP in New Zealand). Beca and WSP in New Zealand came together to deliver the design, consenting and construction of waterway works and a new bypass pipeline to resotre the pre-earthquake floor risk to the Flockton Street area in Christchurch, New Zealand.
- Merit Award for the Auckland Harbour Bridge Lighting project (delivered by the Auckland System Management Alliance, comprising of Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency, WSP in New Zealand, SRG Global, Fulton Hogan, HEB Construction and Beca). The alliance used a multidisciplinary approach to deliver an innovative, resilient solution that didn't compromise on aesthetics and the client's heritage requirements, with the upgrade of the lighting resulting in a base 52 per cent power saving, as well as reduced maintenance costs.
Beca would also like to congratulate Transpower on winning the Client Award for their collaboration with Beca on the Silver-Award-winning Bunnythorpe to Haywards Transmission Line Reconductoring project.
Helen Gilbert, Beca Technical Director – Transmission Line Engineering, commented, "It's great to have the Bunnythorpe to Haywards, major infrastructure project for Transpower, recognised at the ACE Awards. The success of the project is due to the partnership and close collaboration of Beca, Transpower and the contractor and the tenacity of the Beca team in delivering innovative designs and meeting key dates for construction in delivering this project. Extra special that Transpower won the Client Award too – congratulations from all of us here at Beca!"
David Heiler, Beca Senior Technical Director – Water Infrastructure and part of the award-winning Dudley Creek Flood Remediation project, said, "It has been great to be involved in a project that significantly improved the lives of residents through reducing flooding to houses and roads, and through enhancements made to the Dudley Creek waterway. I was fortunate to be involved in an excellent team that drew great people together from Beca and our project partners at WSP in New Zealand and EOS Ecology."
Also present at the awards gala was Darryl-Lee Wendelborn, Beca Managing Director – New Zealand, who said, "It was wonderful being able to celebrate the excellent work of consulting engineers in New Zealand in person after a year of uncertainties.
