The communities surrounding Middlemore Hospital are benefitting from a more efficient healthcare experience thanks to the new Harley Gray Building.
Making a visit to the hospital a more pleasant experience for patients and their families was one of the driving forces behind Middlemore Hospital’s new Clinical Services Building (now called the Harley Gray Building). It also brings together previously scattered core services under one roof, resulting in a more efficient experience.
Now, this 34,000m2, five-storey building helps Counties Manukau Health deliver better health services in a rapidly-growing area with high health needs.
Its facilities are designed to meet a wide range of healthcare needs. It features 14 new theatres (replacing 11 existing theatres), a 38-cot neonatal unit, 42-bed medical assessment unit, 23-bed post-anaesthetic care unit, 20-bed theatre admission and discharge unit, plus a central sterile supply department and hospital kitchen. It’s even designed for the future, with space for new laboratories and radiology departments, when needed.
To deliver this specialist building, we provided building services, civil and fire engineering services. The thorough design phase incorporated wide-ranging stakeholder engagement, resulting in an energy and operationally efficient building designed to last; and valuable savings for Counties Manukau Health.
