Situated at the heart of Punggol Digital District (PDD), the new Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) campus is set to become a living lab - a hub of excellence that will drive Singapore’s goal to become a truly Smart Nation.
With a floor area spanning 91,000 square metres, Singapore Institute of Technology's new campus features a smart network of more than 10,000 IoT (Internet of Things) sensors that will collect real-time data on temperature, ambient light and movement.
This data will then be fed into an Integrated Building Management System (IBMS) which will link its lighting, lifts, air conditioning and security systems together in a way that seamlessly adjusts to human presence – maximising occupants' comfort whilst reducing energy consumption. It will also be the first university in Southeast Asia to have a multi-energy microgrid network, that draws energy from renewable sources, further burnishing its green credentials.
With our strong reputation for delivering excellent building services on large-scale developments across Singapore, Beca was engaged to lead the design of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering services for Plot 1 of this SGD $1 billion project.
Working closely with the client and WOHA Architects, we’ve developed robust designs to power the previously mentioned technology that will make SIT a truly standout educational institution. Now, with construction well underway following a groundbreaking ceremony on 10 September 2019, the campus is just three years from its expected opening date in 2024.
By combining the best of nature with industry and technology, SIT is set to become an icon for nurturing educational environments in the 21st century!
