Société Le Nickel (SLN), a large nickel ore miner from New Caledonia reduced their dust emissions and operating costs whilst increasing production capacity, thanks to our high efficiency trommell screen design.
With the dual aims of lowering operational and maintenance costs whilst reducing dust emissions at their large nickel ore mine in Doniambo New Caledonia, Société Le Nickel (SLN) decided to upgrade the TBC (Tour Broyage et Criblage) screening and crushing plant at this site.
Given our presence in the New Caledonia market and our expertise in the mining and metals space, SLN commissioned Beca to investigate the options available to make this upgrade a reality.
Following our initial investigations, we proposed a high efficiency trommel screen to be installed on the ends of dryers within the plant, which could also fit inside the existing dust collection system.
We were subsequently awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCM) contracts to oversee the delivery of this TBC (crushing and screening tower) plant upgrade. We then put together a site-based construction team, including French-speaking construction management personnel to administer local contractors on this project.
With just a 17-day shutdown schedule in which to complete construction, Beca delivered a result through a brownfields design with more than 15 points of interface. This achieved Société Le Nickel’s objectives of reducing dust emissions, operating costs and plant maintenance costs whilst increasing throughput.
