Working together to deliver water that works

Safe, clean water and effective water systems are essential to Melbournians’ everyday lives. Helping to deliver this is the FHDB joint venture.

Delivering this vital work is no small task – it’s a seven-year, AUD300 million programme of capital works, alongside Fulton Hogan and Delplant. It’s for South East Water, which manages over 23,000km of pipelines, 80 water pump stations, 255 sewage pumping stations, and AUD3 billion in assets in total.

To help maintain and develop a functioning water system, our joint venture has been awarded more than 40 projects to a value of AUD150M. This includes a new relief sewer to service a redeveloped industrial area, presenting unique challenges including deep excavations and contaminated land. A new odour control facility has been completed. And the risk of odour affecting the surrounding communities has been addressed by choosing biological and activated carbon treatment technology, which means odours are treated to a high standard.

Plus, a new AUD25M Mornington Peninsula transfer pipeline has been completed, providing a modern pressure sewerage system to this growing region. The biggest project in the programme of works, over 30km of pipeline was constructed, with a pumping station and odour control facilities.

This design and construct delivery model provides South East Water better value for money, and all the benefits a collaborative design approach brings.
